As you can see in the picture located beside this text Afghanistan consists of many tribes. While doing research on these tribes I have learned that many of these tribes are indistinguishable. Here are a few brief descriptions of tribes in Afghanistan:
- Pashtun: This tribe is known for being the largest and most dynamic tribe in Afghanistan. The Pashtun tribe speaks many different languages based on the Pashtu, but some still speak an ancient language called Dari, both originating from Iran. The culture of this tribe rests on the Pushtunwali, which is a code of morals and laws.
- Tajik: This tribe is known for being wealthy and having a major political influence. As you can see on the map, the Tajik tribe is the second largest after the Pashtuns. Tajik people normally are called "Farsiwans" which means Persian-speaking.
- Hazara: The Hazara tribe is noted for being members of the Islamic faith. Hazara people are predominately have Mongolian ethnicity. The Hazara tribe originates from the mountains of Afghanistan. Like the Tajik tribe, Hazara people are also Persian-speaking.
